How to bypass the FiOS router entirely.

The best way to start this is probably with a little background about my home network …

I’ve had FiOS for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been using the craptastic Actiontec sad-excuse-for-a-router for about the same amount of time.  About 6 months or so ago, I began to realize that with the proliferation of Kindles, laptops, phones and iPods in my house that my network was simply at full capacity.  So, I upgraded my service to one of their super fast plans and emptied out my wallet at the same time.

A few days after that, I installed a TP-Link TL-WA801ND Wireless N AccessPoint to segregate some of the devices off of the Actiontec wifi – primarily all the wireless devices my kids use to watch Minecraft videos 24/7 on their Kindle’s.  This worked to a certain extent.

I think that one of the most often overlooked aspects of putting together (or buying) a computer are the input devices.  Most consumers simply use what comes with the machine they bought at their favorite retailer and don’t think twice about how much better their experience could be.  Gamers, on the other hand, spend a lot of time figuring out what keyboard and mouse combination best fits their playing style and needs.  I fit in the latter category.

Guild Wars 2: WvW with CORE

Digging deeper into Guild Wars 2, I find myself in a new guild Company of the Red Elite [CORE] for World vs. World.  Now, I’m a total noob at WvW but I’m with a great group of players and am learning a lot about the strategy and play style.  As such, I’ve had to completely dump my PvE build and am running a totally different setup to provide better support for my Guild in these Zerg encounters.

At this point, I’m not at all comfortable with the build and which skills to use when.  So you’ll notice that I wind up spamming skills randomly at times.  Most of the finishers and combos I know, it’s just a matter of figuring out what to use and when in a given situation.

July 15th brought us the latest installment of Season 2 content for Guild Wars 2, called Entanglement.   Herp and I played through it last night and recorded the whole thing while providing random commentary and geekyness along the way.
